AVID® Microchips: We microchip all of our dogs and puppies to ensure safe return to their rightful owners of any lost or stolen animals. To date we have a perfect record for recovery of all lost or stolen animals. The longest that any animal was away from its owner was 9 months. This particular pup was stolen out of the front yard of one of our customers and was retrieved from a drug house 9 months later. The pup was only 3 months when it was stolen and had it not been for the microchip, the customer would never have known it was theirs.
Recovery: Although the microchips have to be scanned in order to determine their owners information, Animal Control facilities are all equipped with scanners and are often where the animals end up for their interim stay until the rightful owners can be contacted. These microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades when they are approximately 7 weeks of age. See Latest Recovery at the bottom of this page.
PetTrak: We now require that all of our pups are registered with PETtrac™ prior to leaving our facility for a minimal cost of $20. This service works in conjunction with AVID Microchip and is available to all recovery agencies and the general public in an effort to reunite lost or stolen animals with their rightful owners. We are happy to offer this service to each and every customer whom we have provided pups to during our previous years of operation. Please contact us for this service!
HOT List: If your pup is ever separated from you, call PETtrac™ (800-336-2843 Ext 4) to HOT LIST your pet immediately to ensure a fast, safe return to your home.
CAUTION: Make sure that your animal is chipped with a microchip that is readily readable in the United States and/or Canada, if that is your place of residence.
- The right microchip can make life easier for people and pets. We recommend the American 'Standard of Care' 125 kHz chip as the foundation of a successful program.
- Confusion: The recent introduction of chips operating at various different radio frequencies has created quite a bit of confusion.
- Facts: America has used the 125 kHz system for nearly 20 years. All scanners being used to scan pets today are designed to read the 125 kHz microchip. Additionally, the USDA Pet Microchip Report, states that 80% of these scanners read only the 125 kHz chip and not other frequencies.
- Solution: Use only true 125 kHz microchips. All U.S. compliant scanners are designed to read 125 kHz chips.

Latest Recovery:
One of our customer's homes was broken into in May 2007, and their precious, 4-month old, Siberian Husky Pup was stolen. Through the concerted efforts of PetTrak, AVID Microchip, the San Diego Animal Control and Counts Cove Kennels, the pup was reunited with her rightful owner today, 03-13-2008, via Police escort! Without this pup's microchip, the reunion would not have been possible. The owner called me within minutes of receiving custody of his dog, now 10 months later and full grown. He was thrilled to have her home again and even more excited that she remembered who he was. The owner had given up hope that this day would ever come!
This pup had been HOT LISTED, so when the abductor called to inquire on the pup's microchip and tried to register it in her own name, a RED FLAG went up at PetTrak. Another RED FLAG went up at AVID Microchip when the abductor called using my name to try and gain more information regarding the pup. One thing led to another until finally the pup was located and returned to their rightful owners!
